Sale of the NEXT ID Group (December 2010)
In line with its focus on the core business of mobile communications and mobile internet, the freenet Group concluded a contract with mr. net group GmbH & Co. KG for the sale of the NEXT ID Group on 23 December 2010. The transaction was completed on 1 January 2011.
2009
Sale of the STRATO Group (November 2009)
On 19 November 2009, freenet AG concluded a contract with Deutsche Telekom AG for the sale of the STRATO Group. freenet's strategic realignment and focus on the mobile communications business meant that the hosting business was no longer receiving the strategic attention and necessary resources to realise its full potential. The transaction was completed on 31 December 2009.
Conversion to registered shares (September 2009)
Following the conversion from bearer shares into registered shares, freenet shares were first traded as such on 28 September 2009. Each bearer share was replaced by one registered share. The new securities identification number was A0Z2ZZ.

This measure had been resolved by the freenet AG Annual General Meeting on 7 July 2009.
Sale of freenet’s DSL business (May 2009)
On 26 May 2009, freenet AG concluded a contract with the United Internet subsidiary 1&1 Internet AG for the sale of its DSL business (freenet Breitband GmbH). 1&1 Internet AG acquired all freenetDSL and freenetKomplett contracts. Customers of associated companies and of wholesale partners were not included in the acquisition and were retained by freenet. It was estimated that, at the point of technical migration, approximately 700,000 DSL contracts would be transferred to 1&1. The customer contracts were technically transferred on 30 November 2009.

With this transaction, freenet AG continued to systematically implement its strategy of focusing on mobile communications and mobile internet.
2008
Takeover of debitel Netherlands by KPN (December 2008)
The takeover of the Dutch debitel subsidiary by the Netherlands telecommunications group KPN, which had been announced on 23 October, was completed on 31 December 2008.

For debitel AG, this transaction marked the final step in the strategic focus on the German domestic market following the successful disposal of the remaining foreign subsidiaries in previous years.
Submission of restructuring plan (November 2008)
On 20 November 2008, freenet AG submitted its integration plan for improved competiveness. With the acquisition of the debitel Group, the mobile service provider business had moved into the focus of the company's strategy. As well as traditional mobile communications, the area of mobile internet became also part of the core business.
Completion of the debitel acquisition / capital increase (July 2008)
The acquisition of the debitel Group by freenet AG was completed on 5 July 2008, making freenet the new owner of the debitel Group.

As consideration for the acquisition of the debitel Group, freenet AG issued 32 million new bearer shares with no par value to the seller. Telco (Netherlands) Holding B.V. (previously: debitel (Netherlands) Holding B.V.), which was held by Permira funds, thus became a shareholder in freenet AG with a share of approximately 24.99 percent.

The number of bearer shares with no par value consequently increased to 128,061,016.
Contract for the acquisition of the debitel Group (April 2008)
On 27 April 2008, freenet AG concluded a contract for the acquisition of the debitel Group, mainly consisting of the debitel AG, TALKLINE GmbH and _dug telecom ag. The seller was Telco (Netherlands) Holding B.V. (previously: debitel (Netherlands) Holding B.V.), a holding company controlled by Permira funds.

The acquisition of the debitel Group created the biggest network-independent telecommunications provider and the third biggest mobile communications provider in Germany.
2007
First listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (March 2007)
96,061,016 freenet AG bearer shares with no par value were traded from 5 March 2007 under the securities identification number A0EAMM in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
Today’s freenet AG (March 2007)
On 2 March 2007, freenet AG was created from the merger between mobilcom AG and freenet.de AG. On registration of the merger of the two companies in the trade register emerged one of the leading telecommunications groups in the German market offering all major communication products in the areas of internet, landline telephony and mobile communications, all from one source: broadband and narrowband access to the web including appropriate services, innovative internet telephony, mobile communications and traditional landline telephony, a comprehensive portal business as well as high-quality B2B solutions.

About mobilcom AG
The mobilcom Group began its business activity as a mobile service provider in the German D-network, and marketed mobile communications services under its own name and for its own account. In March 1997, mobilcom shares were admitted to trading on the New Market. On 24 March 2003, they were included in the TecDAX. In 1998, mobilcom extended its business activities to the landline and internet business. In the period between 1997 and 2000, mobilcom’s business grew through a series of acquisitions. At the beginning of April 2003, MobilCom Holding GmbH sold the entire landline business to freenet.de AG.

About freenet.de AG
In October 1999, all internet activities of the mobilcom Group were bundled into freenet.de AG. In December 1999, freenet.de AG shares were admitted to trading, initially on the New Market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange; on 23 September 2003, they were included in the TecDAX. In the years that followed, freenet.de AG developed from a pure online service to an internet telecommunications provider. Important steps on this route were particularly the acquisition of the entire landline business of mobilcom in 2003 and, also in 2003, the entrance into the DSL business. In early 2004, freenet.de AG offered DSL users, for the first time, domestic and international internet telephony with its freenet iPhone. Furthermore, freenet.de AG acquired numerous companies and holdings in order to develop its individual businesses.
